When I became a yoga teacher I felt very out of my league. I had only been practicing yoga for a few months when I received my teaching certificate. I just KNEW it was what God put me on this earth to do! I made a trip to the local “hippy store” as I liked to call it. I needed something to make me FEEL like a real yoga teacher. My eyes fell upon the most beautiful, golden bowl with a wooden mallet topped with red velvet. It was perfect and exactly what I needed to make me an “official” yoga teacher. I remember the studio I was working in had a room with all these beautiful singing bowls.

I could not wait to tell my friends at the studio about my purchase. One of the teachers quickly scolded me about playing a signing bowl for my students without “proper training.”
I have always been on a tight budget so I turned to as many free training classes I could find on YouTube. One day I finally did it! I made the bowl SING. It was the most beautiful sound I had ever heard in my life….so I dove into more education on singing bowls. After teaching enough yoga classes I eventually earned enough money to purchase a large crystal singing bowl. Over time I have added other instruments to my sound bath repertoire. I just knew I could use the instruments to worship Jesus and it would be unlike any other music typically played for worship. I am not much of a vocalist so having an instrument to praise Jesus with was just what I needed to bring more passion into my home-based praise time!
When the pandemic hit, I was stuck at home and unable to teach my yoga classes, so I spent that time in training. I took the leap and made an investment in an online Sound Healing certification. I was already familiar with playing my instruments and leading sound baths. I already knew how relaxing the sounds were to my students.
This training opened my eyes to all the science behind the sounds.
It taught me how to verbalize to my students exactly what was happening to them in my sound baths- why they were seeing certain colors, why they felt emotions they had not experienced in years, why their pain went away during that time. I loved how it allowed me to explain the facts without having students think I was doing anything to jeopardize their faith. We were not opening strange portals or using any type of magic or witchcraft.
The cool part of it all was just how simple it was. Sounds are vibrations. Certain vibrations carry into the body and into each cell inside our body. The vibrations create sensations that allow us to feel certain ways (depending on each frequency). It was simple! All I had to do was keep playing my instruments, sending out those “good vibrations” and allowing Jesus to work through the sounds.
This is so encouraging! Thank you for sharing!
Thank you Amy!
Hi Sara, I enjoyed reading your blog. I have been interested in sound healing for awhile, and I’m wondering what website/organization did you use for your online sound healing certification?
